چکیده
Standard lattice fermion algorithms run into the well-known sign problem at real chemical potential. In this paper we investigate the possibility of using imaginary chemical potential, and argue that it has advantages over other methods, particularly for probing the physics at finite temperature as well as density. As a feasibility study, we present numerical results for the partition function of the two-dimensional Hubbard model with imaginary chemical potential. We also note that systems with a net imbalance of isospin may be simulated using a real chemical potential that couples to I3 without suffering from the sign problem. PACS numbers: 11.15.Ha, 71.10.Fd

We study the behavior of the fermion determinant at finite temperature and chemical potential, as a function of the Polyakov loop. The phase of the determinant is correlated with the imaginary part of the Polyakov loop. This correlation and its consequences are considered in static QCD, in a toy model of free quarks in a constant A 0 background, and in simulations constraining the imaginary par...

We explore the phase diagram of SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theory with dy-namical fermions in the temperature, mass, chemical potential space. We observe qualitative changes of the dependence of the particle density on µ and T , which is compatible with that expected of a gas of free massless quarks n ∝ µ 3 only for T ≃ T c. At the onset for thermodynamics the interquark potential flattens at large se...

We present results from magnetic monopoles in SU (2) lattice gauge theory at finite temperature. The lattices are 16 3 × N t , for N t = 4, 6, 8, 12, at β = 2.5115. Quantities discussed are: the spacial string tension, Polyakov loops, and the screening of timelike and spacelike magnetic currents.
